Client: Active Luton
Project Outline: Improvements to the Luton Regional Sports Centre, creating a new 100 station gym, upgraded studio, new male & female changing facilities and reception.
Budget: £2m
Active Luton are the non for profit trust employed by Luton Borough Council to operate 11 sports and leisure facilities within the Luton area. The principle centre is the Luton Regional Sports Centre, providing facilities for both the general public and Stopsley High School. There is a range of internal sports and exercise equipment available and over 80 acres of pitches and grassland area for use by the community. The Active Luton team are bringing operational leisure facility experience to the centre, with objectives of increasing the health & leisure provision, increasing the participation in health & fitness and maximising the usage of the facility. The scheme is due to complete in late Autumn of 2009.
The scheme, currently in design includes:
- Creating a new reception that will be modern, more visual and in a more accessible area.
- A new 100 station gym in a modern more open environment.
- A new climbing wall viewable from a seated café area. The climbing wall will give a higher level of experience compared with the climbing wall already at the centre.
- New male and female changing facilities incorporating environmentally friendly features.
